Our Story
We can’t say that it has always been our dream to make wine, but wine pretty much our entire life has been our companion. Anja was fortunate to learn about wine making and train her palate with the best, having worked for La Spinetta for over 15 years among a team of extremely wine passionate people.Today she is also a shareholder of Contratto winery. While I, Leonardo, being a certified AIS sommelier, have lived wine all my adulthood life, have been dreaming about making it one day also my profession. It's the wine passion that has brought us together, exploring wine regions and discovering more about this beautiful world. Anja and I were visiting Oltrepo Pavese often, realizing that the quality of sparkling wine in this region was extremely high. It was the quality of the wines that finally made us decide to invest in this Pinot Noir focused area and to create something that will enhance memorable wine moments for any wine lover.
Oltrepo Pavese
Oltrepo Pavese, 150 km east of the Laghe in Piemonte and 50 km south of Milano is Europe’s third largest growing area for Pinot Noir, which together with Munier is our favorite varietal in Champagne and in Metodo Classico sparkling wine. While the quality of the Pinot Noir due to its ideal soil rich in marl, clay and limestone is outstanding, we found a wine region that economically reminded us of Piemonte 20 years ago. A combination of two factors that made an investment the most logical consequence. The acquisition of Villa Chloé and the vineyards surrounding it, has conculded into a small winery procejt that at the moment produces 3 Pinot Noir wines.

(100% Pinot Noir , aged for a brief period of time in used French oak)
The PN as a white wine, coming from the vineyard that is attached to Villa Chloé and is planted with a Pinot Noir clone ideal for sparkling and white wine production. This wine amazes in freshness that is combined with minerality and a length that is typical for whites made from this nobel varietal.
The Metodo Classico sparkling is a Blanc de Noir and we love it for its Pinot “seriousness” yet its freshness and drinkability. A sparkling wine that is easy drinking, but impresses nevertheless, which for us is the ideal balance that turns a great sparkling wine into something excellent.
